Starships of Future Past

We have the wrong idea about future space travel. Our current technology has conditioned us to believe in spaceships as a sterile affair, all metals and plastics. This works for getting to the Moon and back, but if you’re like me that’s not good enough. The frontier beyond the Moon, beyond the Solar System–this is what calls to us. When one commits to this, one realizes this is going to be a one-way affair.

Beyond Quantity

This is an age of codes. Ultimately a code is a quantity: a particular code is one of a finite number of possible codes. As the age of codes the dominant metaphor is of information-processing machines. We apply this framing device on every level of existence: our neurons are tiny computing machines that create a larger computing machine we call the brain. Instead: the media sternly fingerwags that labeling the virus by where it came from is racist, followed by social measures held in place by shaming. There is a sputtering of action at the beginning, followed by nothing but yelling about masks for 9 months.

Paths

When I die, what is the narrative I will have lived? What will I have done to have lived a full life? To craft a future narrative and to act on it enables it to come about. Without a goal one will be chosen for you (how many of chosen ‘Defeat Trump’ instead of ‘my-own-rational-goal’?) One has a degree of control over their own telos, and deciding where our time points is imperative!
